Shaken brown sugar espresso topped with vanilla sweet cream. Coffee beans are scattered around.

The other day, I tried Starbucks iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken expresso yesterday. OH MY, it’s good! It has a warm, oaty flavor that reminded me of Honey Nut Cheerios from my college days when it was sweeter.

While I am head over heels for this drink, it is VERY sweet. Maybe even too sweet (words you rarely hear me say!). I also paid over $6.00 for a tall one. (Cough!)

Much like my other Starbucks copycat recipes, I will show you how to make this for a fraction of the price! You can take the iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken expresso to a new level and top it with my Starbucks copycat vanilla sweet cream cold foam recipe!

Ingredients

Ingredients used in making the recipe.
  • Blond Espresso – Starbucks makes this recipe using Veranda Blond whole bean coffee. The good news is you can buy it at Starbucks and most large grocery stores.  But you don’t have to stick with Starbucks. We prefer Seattle’s Best light roast (Did I just sin?). No espresso machine?  That is no problem. Make this recipe with Starbucks Instant Blonde Espresso instead.
  • Brown Sugar – Starbucks recommends using light brown sugar, but you can also use dark. Vegans, look for an organic brown sugar to avoid bone char.
  • Cinnamon – You only need a small dash. Leave it out if you are out of cinnamon or don’t like it. The cinnamon only adds a small amount of flavor.
  • Unsweetened Oatmilk – Starbucks uses the unsweetened Oatly brand for its drinks. This is found at most large grocery stores. The oatmilk gives this drink a distinctive flavor. You can use any milk, but I would stick with oatmilk if you can.

If you are shopping for an espresso machine, I strongly recommend Breville. We bought ours in 2018. We use it daily!

Instructions

Step One: Espresso

Start by making the espresso. Then, add and stir the brown sugar into the espresso.  You want to do this while the espresso is still hot so that the brown sugar dissolves.

Step Two: Mix

Place the ice, espresso, and cinnamon in a cocktail shaker or mason jar with the top screwed on tightly. Shake vigorously 10 to 20 times.

Step Three: Serve

Pour the espresso into a glass glass and top with oatmlk. If you are a cinnamon lover, top with another dash before serving!

    1. Hi Jill, we love ours so much! I gave my husband such a hard time for buying one because I loved Starbucks. But the amount of money we have saved is crazy! Plus, it makes great drinks like this expresso.
