Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers are the fresh, fruity flavor we have wanted! The flavor is a combination of blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry! Their new drink includes boba pearls that pop with fresh raspberry flavor. Can we say, OMG? Yep! It’s that good! Here is a breakdown of the three Summer Berry Refreshers on the Starbucks menu.

  • Summer Berry – A mixed berry base, water, ice, and raspberry-flavored pearls
  • Summer Berry Lemonade – A mixed berry base, lemonade, ice, and raspberry-flavored pearls
  • Summer Skies Drink – A mixed berry base, coconut milk, ice, and raspberry-flavored pearls. (My money is on the Summer Skies Drink will be the pink drink of summer 2024!)

Try pairing the Summer Berry refresher with homemade fruit popsicles or a blueberry milkshake for a perfect hot day combination!

Ingredients

Starbucks’ drink syrups are custom-made, which makes copycatting them challenging. I looked for off-the-shelf ingredients that were as close as possible in flavor. Monin Wildberry was by far the closest favorite (and delicious!) It will require an investment, but you will save money quickly at $7 a Starbucks drink!

  • Moin Wildberry Syrup: Monin does not specify the berry flavors in this syrup. However, the label has an image of blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, which implies that those are the berry flavors in this syrup.
  • Citric Acid: This ingredient adds a tang to balance out the sweetness. It is an important ingredient, but always remember that with citric acid, less is more.
  • Green Bean Coffee Extract (optional): This can be added for caffeine. Starbucks lists this as “flavor.” But in my experience, it does not add flavor, so I left it as optional.
  • Strawberry-Flavored Boba Pearls (optional): I struggled to find raspberry boba pearls on Amazon for less than $40, so I chose Strawberry pearls. The differences between the drinks were slight. Here is what I noted.
    • The strawberry pearls were sweeter, whereas the Starbucks raspberry pearls were tarter.
    • The strawberry pearls are made with tapioca, and the Starbucks pearls are not. I only noticed a very slight difference in texture. I also noticed the raspberry pearls dissolved into the drink faster.

Note: Starbucks makes drinks with flavored syrups instead of fresh fruits. You can try to make this at home using fresh fruits. But, it will take longer and taste nothing like the Starbucks berry drink.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the Berry Refresher at Starbucks has a whopping 50mg of caffeine. The caffeine is part of the base; there is no caffeine-free way to order the drink. But, if you make this drink at home, you can make it caffeine-free (bonus!)

The Mango Dragonfruit, Strawberry Acai, and Pineapple Refreshers are still on the menu. Rumors suggest that they may drop the Pineapple Refresher. I will update this as soon as I have official confirmation from Starbucks.

Starbucks’s base is unique and crafted for them. As a result, it is very difficult to get an exact copycat. I taste-tested several options. I felt the wildberry syrup was the closest flavor match to the original. The one difference is this syrup is not blue. I felt the flavor was more important than the color.
