What is Falafel?

Middle Eastern staple made with chickpeas, parsley, lemon, garlic, and spices. Fried into small round patties.

Vegan Falafel Ingredients

– Dried chickpeas – Garlic – Yellow onion diced – Coriander & Cumin – Parsley chopped – Salt – Pepper – Baking soda – Lemon – Frying Oil

Prepare the Beans

Place garbanzo beans in a large bowl and cover with water 3 to 4 inches above the beans. Soak overnight.

Combine Ingredients

Place all the ingredients, except the oil, in a food processor; pulse until mealy and a thick paste.

Scoop Falafel

Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the mixture, using your hands, and shape it into a ball or small patty.

Heat the Frying Oil

Using a large deep skillet, put 2 to 3 inches of oil in the pan (more is better) and heat to medium.

Fry Patties

Fry in batches spaced five minutes apart, and flip the pappy once in the middle of the cooking time.
