How to Make a Grilled Cheese

* Step by step instructions * Golden brown bread * Perfectly melty * Vegan sandwich with the same techniques for a traditional gilled cheese. 

You only need three ingredients to make a grilled cheese.  The same ingredients if you are making a vegan version.

3 Ingredients!

1. Bread - Use your favorite brand.  I love sourdough! 2. Cheese - American or vegan American cheese melts best! 3. Room temperature butter

3 Ingredients!

All you need is a skillet and possibly a lid.   I like to use the lid to  create stem to melt the cheese.  I only use this when the cheese is not melting. 


Generously butter two slices of bread on one side.  Leave the other side unbuttered.  

Step One:  Butter the Bread

Before placing the sandwich on the skillet, build it and include any inclusions (tomato, pesto, avocado, etc.)

Step Two:  Bulid the Sandwich

Heat the skillet to medium-low heat.  You want the skillet hot when put place the bread butter sided down, but on the low temperature  side. 

Step Three:  Heat the Skillet

That is because a lower heat allows for the cheese to melt without burning the bread. 

Step Three:  Heat the Skillet

Flip the sandwich over after 2-4 minutes, once the bread is a medium golden brown.  Cook for another 2-4 minutes. 

Step Four:  Heat the Skillet

Once both sides are golden and the cheese melty. Remove and cut the sandwich in half and serve hot.  

Step Five:  Heat the Skillet
