Homemade  Sloppy Joe Recipe

What is a  Sloppy Joe?

Ground beef simmered in a tangy tomato sauce and served on a bun.  I use meat crumbles to make my version vegan!

Ingredients

– Olive oil – Yellow onion  – Garlic  – 16 ounces Protein – Tomato sauce – Soy sauce  – Brown sugar – Dijon mustard – Chile powder –  Paprika – Hamburger buns

Step One: Saute

Heat the olive oil until the oil shimmers, about one minute.  Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables become tender.

Step Two: Protein

Add the soy crumbles or ground beef to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.

Step Three: Sauce

Whisk together the tomato sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, dijon mustard, chili powder, smoked paprika salt, and pepper.

Step Four: Combine

Add sauce to the protein. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes or until sauce thickens. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step Five: Bun

Toast the hamburger buns. Add a scoop of sloppy joe mix and serve with your favorite side.
